Induction Hob vs Gas Hob

Induction hobs are considered more energy efficient than gas hobs, using up to 90 percent of the actual energy produced in comparison to 55 percent for gas. It is true to say this is a double edged economy as the actual equipment costs more, but prices are falling and there are now hobs available under £400. Glen Martin, of Martins of Harborough in Market Harborough, believes it’s only a matter of time before induction hobs will begin to challenge gas hobs for market share, and over the next five years it is expected that induction hobs will double or even treble their 5-7% of the market.

Ever considered underfloor heating? Here's why you should...

Would you believe that underfloor heating dates back to Roman times and continues to be popular, although many people do not realise the amount of benefits with heating a room this way and how reasonable it is to install...

Even heat distribution provides greater efficiency, minimising cost and reducing fuel consumption for a better environment. The average saving is around 20 – 25% and up to 40% on larger properties. It does this by operating at much lower temperatures than conventional heating and utilises a thermal store. Underfloor heating also allows you to control the temperature of individual rooms. You can also save money long term as they require less maintenance than a conventional heating system.

Underfloor heating has a maximum surface temperature of 27%, so take this into account when choosing your flooring type. But whichever flooring you choose, ensure it’s smooth and clean when installing onto your underfloor heating.

And just think of the extra space you could gain by freeing up your walls and banishing those ugly radiators!
